Main interests

HistoryNature
  1. Day 1

    Lanzhou

Use the Yellow River, noodle culture and a concise city walk to introduce the northwest before continuing west.

Continue to: Zhangye · High-speed rail

  2. Days 2–3

    Zhangye

Reserve changing light for the Danxia landform and keep city or temple visits separate from the long landscape day.

Continue to: Jiayuguan · High-speed rail

  3. Day 4

    Jiayuguan

Treat the fortress as a Silk Road threshold, linking walls, desert-edge geography and corridor transport.

Continue to: Dunhuang · Rail or private car

  4. Days 5–7

    Dunhuang

Separate Mogao Cave reservations from Mingsha Mountain, the night market and desert-edge sites.

Arrival and departure

Arrive in Lanzhou and continue west by rail through Zhangye and Jiayuguan. Finish in Dunhuang and depart from Dunhuang airport or railway station rather than reversing the entire Hexi Corridor.

Why this route works

Lanzhou and Jiayuguan are concise stops; Zhangye gets a full landscape day and Dunhuang gets three days for reservations, desert light and departure logistics.
