Xi'an — Kashgar · 21 days
A 21-day Silk Road journey runs west from Xi'an through Lanzhou, Zhangye and Dunhuang, then crosses Xinjiang from Turpan and Urumqi to Kashgar.
This is a planning framework, not a fixed group tour. Stops, transport and daily pace can all be changed.

Give the Terracotta Army its own day and keep the city wall, mosque, food streets and museum appointments in logical clusters.

Use the Yellow River, noodle culture and a concise city walk to introduce the northwest before continuing west.

Zhangye
Reserve changing light for the Danxia landform and keep city or temple visits separate from the long landscape day.

Dunhuang
Separate Mogao Cave reservations from Mingsha Mountain, the night market and desert-edge sites.

Leave several days for the old city, livestock or neighborhood markets, local food and an optional Pamir road journey.
Arrival and departure
Enter through Xi'an and travel west by rail across the Hexi Corridor, then use longer rail or air links across Xinjiang. Finish in Kashgar and fly out via Urumqi or another mainland hub rather than returning overland.
Why this route works
Rail suits the eastern corridor; Xinjiang requires longer transfers and usually a flight to Kashgar. Six final days allow time for the old city, markets and an optional Pamir outing.
